Youth Sailing
The club has a thriving youth, junior and pre-sailor community and benefits from over 30 years of investment by the club in young sailors.
As with all club activities, Youth, Junior & Pre-Sailor (YJP) sailing at Olton Mere Sailing Club is organised and managed by volunteers. It only works if everyone contributes so please get involved and help.
The objective is to foster a life-long love of sailing and to promote the social and physical benefits of sailing in all our young members and their families.To do this, the emphasis is on safe, fun activities which encourage social interaction as well as improving sailing skills.We have a wide range of activities and social events organised which allow our youngsters to grow, both in their sailing experience personally.
We encourage all young sailors, their parents and carers to support each other, both on and off the water at Olton Mere Sailing Club and away from the club. Many parents active at the club now have fond memories of strong supportive friendships formed at Olton Mere Sailing Club that have lasted into adulthood - some have even resulted in marriage!
Friendships formed away from academic environments also provide a great source of solace and perspective for youngsters growing up in the demanding modern education system surrounded by (social) media pressure to conform to expected stereotypes and behaviours. Olton Mere Sailing Club is well placed to support your children as they grow up by providing a social and sporting outlet away from the usual education experience.
The Youth & Junior Sailing Officer runs a small sub-committee to deliver pre-sailor, junior and youth events. We are always looking for additional help so please get in touch.Whilst the official title is Youth & Junior Sailing, the effort encompasses all youth, junior and pre-sailor activities at Olton Mere Sailing Club.
We have three main groups of members in our system, we define them as follows:
- PRE-SAILORS (<7 years)
- JUNIORS (7year - 12ish years)
- YOUTHs (12ish - 18 years)
